Unfortunately no one from GA could make it out to NC for the contest. Fortunately Scott Hutson stepped up the plate and put together a full write-up along with a photo album from the event. Much love to Scott for content!! Enjoy!

April has always been a little early for a wakeboard competition in NC not only because the water temps haven't risen that much but the weather can be a little iffy too. Chris Hopf of the East Coast Wake Park (ECWP) made a last minute decision to postpone the comp a day due to forecast of extremely bad weather. It was a good call on their part too because NC had its worst tornado outbreak in nearly three decades. Sunday came and we saw blue skies and light wind as the riders and spectators alike started arriving at the ECWP in Greenville NC. This was the first event of their Summer Slider Series with one scheduled each month throughout the summer. Being that rail riding is somewhat new to most of the riders in the region the comp was quite different from what we would expect to see, in the fact that the Beginner and Intermediate Divisions had the least amount of entrants and the Advanced and Pro Divisions having the most.
The first rider got off the dock a bit later than planned but that's where the sponsors come in. Voda Tramp Boards were available to try on ECWP's trampoline, Monster Energy had two of there lovely ladies on hand providing cold monsters for the crowd, and always a favorite Cornhole was available to play while waiting or when there was a break in the action. Canvassed Apparel, the sponsors of the newest and now the riders favorite rail, The Ark, were on handing out t-shirts and coozies for the crowd. The level of riding really progressed as we went through the divisions but as we got to the Advanced Division the riding hit a whole new level with the likes of Sam Baker, Fields Johnson, Benj Trogdon, and Stephen Pierce putting together some insane laps on the lake. Winning the advanced division was Stephen Pierce who put down the most unique lines of the day including using the incline of the funbox as a kicker and throwing a batwing that brought the loudest cheers all day. The Pro Division, with its 7 entrants, drew names out of a hat to see who they were going up against in a "head to head jam session" format leaving one rider with a bye in the first round. We saw great riding from all as the field was narrowed down to a 4 man Final. With $2000 cash on the line the guys pulled out all the hammers for the finals. When all was said and done it was Marc Rossiter on top followed by Nate Perry, Brian Reeder, and Trevor Bashir. A great time was had by all in attendance and I for one am looking forward to ECWP's Summer Slider Series on May 7th. If you're in the area I definitely recommend checking out the action!!!
